Brest city France is a charming city, located amidst dramatic landscape located on the western tip of the Brittany peninsula. It lies at the crossroads of numerous north-south and east-west sea routes. Brest is an important port and naval base, home to the French national fleet. This city was destroyed during WWII and then rebuilt in the 1950s. The port of Brest’s strategic location and the remarkable nautical qualities and high performing facilities, makes it the ideal choice in the heart of the Atlantic Arc. Port of Brest today serves as Europe's number one food industrial area. Brest is an ideal port for transshipment in the case of the development of inter-European sea links and trans-European transport networks. In addition, this port is a gateway to France, Europe and a connection to ongoing worldwide sailings. Brest city has a few tourist attractions to offer but is certainly a nice place. An old castle, which is a 15th century structure, is a main tourist spot offering panoramic views of the city. One gets to view at the collection of the National Navy Museum, featuring Brest’s maritime tradition, in one of the three castle’s towers. Musée de Vieux Brest is another museum worth visiting, housed in the 14th century Tour Tanguy on the opposite bank of the River Penfeld. It depicts the city on the eve of WWII. Another popular place among the tourist is the Oceanopolis marine centre. It is located at a few kilometers east of the city centre displaying a variety of interesting sea life and boasting a 3D cinema, which is very popular with the families. The Brest city France has nature at its best, with the windswept moors, which surround Brest, providing best opportunities for horseback riding, mountain biking and fishing. For Golfers there is an 18-hole course at Golf de Brest Iroisem, which has an excellent course rolling over the smooth Breton landscape. A travel along canal, which runs from Brest all the way to Nantes, is another fantastic tour. A boat ride offers a unique way to see the region and a well-developed path along the canal, ideal for walking, biking or horseback riding. To experience the true Breton culture Brest is considered the best place. The city’s selection of bars and cafés, truly present the unique and colorful Breton lifestyle and lots of friendly locals to go with them. One would not come across a powerful nightclub scene but if feel like dancing there are several choices. It is a complete pleasure to dine at the various traditional cafes and restaurants, with a whole lot of choices for the visitors. As with most of Brittany, seafood dominates Brest cuisine, mainly by fish and shellfish, and the local dishes are some of the best in the world. Fresh lobster with cream sauce is one of the local specialties as well as cotriade, a distinctive fish soup with potato, onion and garlic. The region is also known for crepes, which are served with sweet fillings. Crepes are an inexpensive meal and a delicious snack and should not be missed out, during touring this part of the country. Besides food, the visitor’s can catch on some live music in one of the several pubs for local Brest music. Le Quartz, the national theatre of Brest is the cultural centre of the town and a popular place to host over 80 shows a year, varying from drama and dance performances to live musical concerts. |
