Vaasa, a city in the west coast of Finland, is an important centre of Finland-Swedish culture. It has changed its name several times. Some of them were Mustasaari, Wasa, Nikoainkaupunki, and vasa. The city was founded by King Charles IX of Sweden in 1606 under the name of Mustasaari. The city was well connected with waterways, so the city flourished on the basis of sea trade, but it suffered the most during the war between Sweden and Russia in 1808. Vaasa Finland can also be said to be an industrial town as it has several industrial parks, where many workers have commuted form nearby municipality. It is no way lagging behind in providing education to its citizens. It has schools, colleges and universities and some of the professional study centers.
