Historical facts about Estonia

After centuries of Danish, Swedish, German, and Russian rule, Estonia conquered independence in 1918. Forcibly incorporated into the USSR in 1940 - an action never recognized by the US - it regained its freedom in 1991, with the end of the Soviet Union.
Since the last Russian troops left in 1994, Estonia has been free to promote economic and political ties with Western Europe.
The country joined both NATO and the EU in the spring of 2004.

Climate: The climate of Estonia is damp and cool. Winters are a bit cooler and summers are a bit warmer than on the coast. The country lies in the path of air masses borne by cyclonic winds that originate in the North Atlantic Ocean and carry warm air in winter and cool air in summer. The northern and western coastal areas tend to be milder than the country's inland regions, while the eastern and southeastern regions tend to have a continental climate.

Language: The language most popularly used is Estonian. It is Finno ugric language and is clearly related to Finnish. Estonia is the major language while some other languages spoken in finnish are Russian, English and finnish.

Religion: Estonia in particular has no official religion but most of the citizens are Christians. The most popular faith is Lutheran while there are also Greek orthodox and other Christian denominations. Religion and church are not much popular in Estonia.

Government: Estonia first declared independence on February 24th 1918 and remained independent until 1940.Estonian singing independent movement started on 1988.Estonia finally got independent on 1991.Estonia has become a democratic independent republic country with the head of the republic is president. Legislative party is the governing party.
