Oxford England is a city and district, located in central England. The city Oxford was first included as a town in 1837, and was given its name after the town of Oxford, England in the hopes of securing Mississippi's first university. This became a reality in 1841, and the University of Mississippi opened its doors to students in 1848 and since then it has become a landmark of Oxford and the heart of the South. The city’s development in the coming times made it an attractive place to live in. Though, being famous as the site for Oxford University, the city even features some important industries, including the manufacture of automobiles and steel products. Tourism is especially popular and with it has come up good, quality hotels in Oxford. The city is also known as The City of Dreaming Spires, a term given by Matthew Arnold in reference to the pleasant architecture of the university buildings. The Oxford University has been existent for over 800 years, and today it has been a home to royalty and scholars. Oxford England from the 9th century is an established town, though the people are known to be living in this region for thousands of years. Today, the city is a lively cosmopolitan town, with its ancient University, it is also home to a growing hi-tech community. Many businesses are located in and around the town, whether on one of the Science and Business Parks or within one of a number of residential areas. |
