Frederikshaven

Frederikshavn, the largest township north of the Limfjord, is located on the eastward coast of northern Jutland. From the fortified normal harbor ferries navigate to Gothenburg in Sweden, Larvik, Moss and Oslo in Norway and to the Danish island of Læthen. Where today’s township stands was in gothic times the place of the fishing resolution of "Fladstrand. When, during the Thirty Years War, a defense entrenchment was built here the spot acquired military importance. A fortifications expert erected a powder-tower surrounded by a fence. In 1818 Fladstrand received its municipal charter and was named Frederikshavn, after Frederik VI. In the 19th C. the bastion, apart from a few buildings, was pulled downward. The township is pleased of its earthbound region.
