Czech Republic geography history has been mutually depended. Hence, human settlement has been found here from dating back to the Neolithic era. Boii and Germanic tribes of Marcomanni and Quadi were amongst the first one who settled here. Even, Slavic people also settled here from Black sea and Carpathian regions. Early stage of Czech Republic history is also known as Bohemian history. Its emergence can be seen in the late 9th centuray. During this time, it was unified by the Premyslid dynasty. Cultural history of Czech Republic is concerned with the life style of Czechs which includes religion, food, traditions and so on. Especially religious conflicts have left very devastating effect on the local population. 15th century Hussite wars and 17th century Thirty Years? War were due to religious conflicts. Habsburgs controlled the country from 16th century and after the fall of Holy Roman Empire it became the part of Austrian Empire and later of Austria- Hungry. In 1918, it got a new status of independent republic of Czechoslovakia. On January 1, 1969, Czechoslovakia was declared a federation due to Slovakia?s demands for greater autonomy. Eventually, Czechoslovakia peacefully split into the independent Czech and Slovak republics on January 1, 1993 and Václav Havel became the Czech Republic?s president. In 1994, it became the member of European Union (EU) and in 1999; it joined North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). |
