Commonwealth Games Village

Commonwealth Games Villages will accommodate athletes who come to New Delhi and would stay in during the fifteen day sports carnival. Moreover, the games village is all prepared to welcome sports persons from 72 countries of Commonwealth. All efforts are being made to work to develop sports venues and infrastructure work to keep the city prepared well in advance before the sport extravaganza starts.

Though the city has already hosted Asian Games two times earlier, it has never hosted the Commonwealth Games. In fact, New Delhi is the second city in Asia to host the games as Kuala Lumpur was the first one to host them in 1998. Moreover, the sincerity of organizing committee cannot be suspected as the organizing committee along with Government of Delhi is trying hard to make the capital city of India suitably well-organized place and ideal for the game.

Hotels near Commonwealth Games Village

The Commonwealth Games Organizing Body has declared that the Games Village would suffice the requirement of accommodation of athletes. However, it has declared that the government owned Ashok Hotel, Samrat Hotel, and Janpath Hotel would be the official hotels for the Delhi Commonwealth Games 2010. The hotels have been renovated curtsey the Indian Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC).

Structure of Commonwealth Games Village

As more than 8000 athletes and sportspersons are expected to come to participate in Commonwealth Games, accommodation is going to be a big issue; the Commonwealth Games Village will cater to the much talked requirement of sports persons. Moreover, as the Commonwealth Games Village is located perfectly in the centre of the city, there are numerous landmarks of the city which include Humayun Tomb, Bahai Temple and Akshardham, etc. amongst others.

Located on the banks of River Yamuna, the Commonwealth Games Village has dense green cover in the surroundings and sports persons would love to stay here. Constructed in an area of 63.5 hectares under the guidance of Delhi Development Authority (DDA), the Commonwealth Games Villages is estimated to accommodate 8500 athletes and their supporting staff. Despite the fact that the village is built in flood zone, developers have started selling them in advance.

Features of Commonwealth Games Village

Like Asian Games Village, the Commonwealth Games Village too has grandeur. Moreover, the cost involved in the construction of the village is solely the responsibility of Government of India which is trying to offer full equipped accommodation facilities with all modular features so that the Athletes and their supporting staff receive comfortable and luxurious stay. The organizing committee estimates that expenditure for holding the games would be around Rs.37.50 billion or US$805.81 million which has been given to the Indian Olympic Association Organizing Committee on a revenue-neutral basis.

Status of Commonwealth Games Village

Despite lots of efforts from the government side, the whole project has not yet been completed; however, the government has set up a time table and according to it the work on sports venues was proposed to be completed by December 2009 which till now has not been completed. The Games Village by August 2010 and civic infrastructure in phases by September 2010 is going to be completed.

The best part of Commonwealth Games Villages is that it is located in beautiful landscaping which connects new city living to the great outdoors. Moreover water features; gardens and walkways, etc. make the place a truly loving and pleasing. The place is ideal with its numerous facilities which offer quality living for the whole family.
