Commonwealth Games India 2010

In a bid held on November 2003 at the Commonwealth Games Federation General Assembly in Montego Bay, Jamaica, New Delhi bid for the 19th Commonwealth Games. Canadian city Hamilton was another competing place; however, New Delhi won the bid by a margin of 46/22 in a ballot of members. The major reason behind India winning the hosting rights of the Commonwealth Games was that it had offered to pay for air tickets, boarding, lodging and transport as well as US$ 100,000 to each participating country for the participation in the game.

Hotel Accommodation During 19th Commonwealth Games New Delhi

19th Commonwealth Games to be held in New Delhi would be a challenging event for hotels in the city which are not matching to the specific requirement of the event in terms of requirements. However, whatever and in whatever number they are in, they would suffice the then requirement of accommodation of travelers. Budget hotels such as Hans Plaza, Connaught, Hotel Alka and luxury hotels such as Inter Continental, Le-Meridien, Park Royal, Taj Palace, Imperial, etc. would entertain travelers in their own manner.

Commonwealth Games Participating Nations

A voluntary institution aimed to help former colonies develop democratic model of governance, Commonwealth organizes sport event to celebrate the values such as democracy, harmony, peace and sustainable development. There are 72 nations which are expected to send their teams in Commonwealth Games 2010. The Commonwealth Games in India would test New Delhi and its capability to host a big sport event after the 1982 Asian Games.

The count down has started and each day is now crucial for those who have been involved in the preparation of Commonwealth Games 2010 in New Delhi. People are waiting the moment which is coming close when India will host the biggest sports extravaganza. No stone is being left unturned towards ensuring smooth and attractive hosting of the games by authorities and the government of India. The 19th Commonwealth Games in New Delhi would be held between 3 October and 14 October 2010.

When India bid for the Commonwealth Games, it promised that it would be lot better than Melbourne Commonwealth Games where the total expenditure was US$1.1 billion. And, according to the government sources the total budget estimated for hosting the Commonwealth Gamesin India would be around US$ 1.6 billion. However, the budget does not include non-sports-related infrastructure development in New Delhi which has to be spend at various stadiums, flyovers, etc.

Pioneering the idea of organizing ‘Green Commonwealth Games,’ the organizing committee has committed for sustainable organization of sports events. Efforts are being made that stadiums and sport complexes as well as various project does not cause harm to the environment and are environment friendly. Moreover, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) was signed in this effect.

Preparations for Commonwealth Games India 2010

Hosting a big sport event like Commonwealth Games is a challenging task; however, India has shown great keenness towards successful hosting of games. It will offer free accommodation for all athletes at the CWG Village. Moreover, free transport and other benefits including of a free trip to the famed Taj Mahal and a reserved lane for participants on selected highways, etc. too are being offered to participating players.

According to Organizing Committee there would be more than 8000 athletes in the Games Village. Various state polices are being given training to handle tourist-related issues. Various construction and "beautification" projects have come up and streets, roads, stadiums, sport complexes and public places are being cleaned and revamped to give attractive look to the city. Moreover, government authorities are not leaving any stone unturned in the front of security.
