Understanding the issues of lack of proper sporting infrastructure, the Government started building new sporting complexes and stadiums as well as revamping the existing ones. As New Delhi had already hosted 1982 Asian Games, much of sporting infrastructure was in existence, but it too required renovation.
With newly constructed stadiums and revamping of existing sporting facilities, New Delhi is now fully prepared to hold the Commonwealth Games 2010. Some specific venues for 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi such as Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Dhyan Chand National Stadium, Delhi University sports complex, Talkatora Stadium, SPM Swimming Pool Complex, Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range, Siri Fort Sports Complex, etc. would be used to hold various sports events.

The starting would take place at the massive Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium with opening ceremony of Commonwealth Games 2010. In order to accommodate athletes and sports persons, the organizing bodies have built the Commonwealth Games village which is located on the bank of Yamuna.
