Australia Climate varies widely in different regions. The northern part has a tropical climate. The south-east and south-west corners have a temperate climate. Australia's tropical/subtropical location and cold waters off the western coast make most of Western Australia a hot desert with aridity. Overall, climate in Australia is temperate, most of the country receiving more than 3,000 hours of sunshine a year.

Summer lasts from December to March in Australia and the average temperature during the period is 84°F (29°C). The hottest region is the northern two-thirds of the continent, which experiences humid and wet conditions in summer. Further south summer is warm with occasional hot spells and mild nights. In the winter between June and August, average temperature is about 56°F (13°C). Australia's hottest temperatures may reach 50°C, while minimum's can reach sub-zero temperatures.
