Darwin is the capital city of the Northern Territory that encompasses the most youthful population in Australia. It is a multicultural community with an exotic mix of Asian, European, and Aboriginal cultures, with a distinctly Australian feel. The city has a tropical climate with distinct wet and dry seasons with a year round average of 32 degrees Celsius. The population of the city in 2005 was 111,300, that makes it by far the most populated city in the sparsely populated Northern Territory but the least populated of all Australia's capital cities. Tourism is one of the largest economic sectors that employs 8% of city population, and is expected to grow as domestic and international tourists are now spending time in Darwin during the Wet and Dry seasons. Accommodation Darwin plays a pivotal role in the development of tourism in the city. The tropical paradise is a blend of cultural character, mystery, beauty and unlimited potential that leaves an ineffaceable image in the minds of the visitors. Visitors from around the world flock to Darwin aiming to catch many beautiful parks and gardens that include the George Brown Darwin Botanic Gardens, East Point Reserve, Casuarina Coastal Reserve, Charles Darwin National Park, Knuckey Lagoons Conservation Reserve, Leanyer Recreation Park, The Nightcliff Foreshore, Bicentennial Park and the Water Gardens in Jingili. The city has many miles of unpolluted beaches, including the Casuarina Beach and well renowned Mindil Beach, home of the Mindil Beach markets. The Casuarina Beach also offers a designated nudist beach area since 1976. Darwin has a lively nightlife and is lined with nightclubs, takeaways, restaurants, and Accommodation Darwin. At night you can immerse yourself in the electric atmosphere of the pubs and nightclubs that dominate the city's nightlife hub on Mitchell Street, dine at Cullen Bay or try your luck at the casino on Mindil Beach. Local restaurants serve dishes from all over the world along with authentic Northern Territory cuisine like mud crabs, barramundi, buffalo, kangaroo and crocodile. You can choose from silver service fine dining, an al fresco meal with a harbor view, or a platter of local seafood at the wharf. Visitors can also enjoy performances from musicians and artists, a variety of street theater, traditional bush poetry and even free stock-whip cracking lessons. |
