About Turkey Turkey Cities Turkey Hotels Turkey Travel Guide

Adana Turkey has a perfect location nestled in one of the most fertile agricultural areas of the country in the center of the Cilician Plain. The city has a mythological twist to its name as it is believed that the name of the city has its origins in mythology, said to have been founded by Adanus, the son of the ‘Weather God’, Kronus. One of the major attractions of the city is the 16th century Great Mosque (Ulu Camil). The city is a hub of mosques. The Yag or Eski Mosques also make up the other attractions of the city.

The city’s clock tower, Saat Kulesi, built in 1882 still holds a lot of fascination for the visitors. Besides these, there is an old covered bazaar, Bedesten or Arasta which hold promise as places of interest. The other attractions to dot the map of Adana Turkey are the Ethnographical Museum and the Adana Archaeological Museum. At the Ethnographical Museum one will find exhibits of Turkish carpets, swords and manuscript books. In fact, the building is said to hold the viewers interest and had been initially built as a church by the crusaders. The tourists who love the outdoor life will love the atmosphere provided by the tea houses and restaurants situated beside the Seyhan Dam and Lake which provides a cool and exciting view of the city.
